"Channel Orange", do rapper Frank Ocean, provavelmente foi o melhor disco do ano na visão da crítica. O lançamento foi o mais mencionado pelos críticos nos top 10 mundo afora. A propósito, sendo ou não o novo rock conforme se proclama por aí, o rap ao menos foi o gênero que mais se aproximou da unanimidade na eleição dos melhores discos de 2012. Seguindo Frank Ocean, o rapper Kendrick Lamar teve um dos lançamentos mais mencionados nas listas: "good kid, m.A.A.d city".

Para deixar 2012 para trás de vez, este blog fez uma varredura nas listas de melhores discos do ano de 10 veículos gringos para achar os melhores dos melhores. O caminho para encontrar os "dez mais dos dez mais" foi simples. Quem tinha mais menções nas listas de NME, Rolling Stone USA, Spin, Spinner, Pitchfork, Stereogum, The Guardian, MTV.com, BBC e Fact Magazine foi passando na frente.

58 lançamentos foram citados nestas dez listas, mas só dois deles se aproximaram da unanimidade, como dito acima: Frank Ocean e Kendrick Lamar apareceram em 9 das dez listas. Fiona Apple e Japandroids apareceram em metade delas. Na sequência, Grimes e Swans apareceram em quatro. Tame Impala, Jessie Ware e Alt-J, em três. E, finalmente, Miguel, em duas.
